ProArteDanza's Summer Intensive Program (SIP) is a four-week program in Contemporary/Ballet for professional and pre-professional level dancers of advanced ballet, contemporary, and modern dance ages 17 and up.
SIP provides the ideal program for dancers who are committed to achieving a higher level of technique and artistry, and who are embarking on a professional career in dance.
The primary goal of the SIP is to nurture dancers' versatility through the creation of new work, as well as, revisiting existing works by local and international choreographers. Our goal is to develop the ability to perform the centuries-old techniques of classical ballet and the contemporary dance techniques of our time, with equal confidence. The results of this work will be shown on the final day in a public performance at the Fleck Theatre.
In recognition of the pedagogical importance of being closely engaged with professional dancers, SIP dancers will be required to join ProArteDanza company members in daily ballet class taught by legendary ballerina, Evelyn Hart. Ballet class will be followed by ProArteDanza contemporary repertoire class.
ProArteDanza provides a platform that spans the boundaries of technical skill and artistic expression. Crossing generations, disciplines and artistic visions allows the company to build a new, cohesive and inclusive world for many dancers, and to develop audiences hungry for great dance. At the conclusion of SIP 2010 ProArteDanza will extend an invitation to one of the program’s dancers, to work with the company on a piece (either a new creation, or a remount from the company's repertoire) for an upcoming performance.
"Working closely with such established artists was initially intimidating, but everyone was so gracious and welcoming, I was quickly made to feel comfortable and welcome. Rehearsals were unforgiving and professional, as those involved have such a strong, demanding and professional work ethic. At the same time they were light-hearted and extremely exhilarating. I learned something different but equally inspiring from each artist, seeing firsthand how they work at their craft. It has undoubtedly left its mark on me as an artist and performer. I had seen ProArteDanza perform for the past few years, but only now do I truly understand why the mandate is "passion in performance". Every individual involved is fully invested and it was definitely an eye-opening experience, to be able to work with a professional and critically acclaimed company, coming from a school environment."
