ProArteDanza acknowledges the under-representation of IBPOC artists in dance, and the need to ensure Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in training. The Summer Intensive Program Showcase features the culmination of four weeks of hard work and dedication from the summer intensive dancers! This year we have three groups of dancers and there will be 5 dance pieces in the program. The program will consist of repertory from ProArteDanza’s company and new creations; featuring works by Roberto Campanella, Robert Glumbek, and Ryan Lee! Please come to the show  and support these talented artists! Performances take place at 8pm Aug 25-27 and at 2pm on Aug 28 at the Winchester Street Theatre.

ProArteDanza’s 2023 Summer Intensive Program (SIP) is a 4-week exclusive, summer training experience tailored to pre-professional dancers ages 14 and over.

2023 Summer Intensive Program Dates: July 31 – August 27

We offer two levels of training to emerging artists:

  • Aspirante – Ages 14 to 17
  • Apprentice – 18+

Roberto Campanella

Director

Founded by former National Ballet of Canada dancer and renowned choreographer Roberto Campanella, ProArteDanza is a new, unique, visionary dance company, created to showcase the best choreographers and dancers from both ballet and modern dance backgrounds. The fusion of two such diverse disciplines celebrates the vibrant potency of both and demonstrates that choreography can bridge the common divide between each art form.

Sasha Ludavicius

Rehearsal Director

Sasha Ludavicius is a professional freelance contemporary dance artist in Toronto. She studied ballet internationally but discovered her passion for contemporary dance in Montreal. Ludavicius was the recipient of the ProArteDanza’s SIP Apprenticeship Award and apprenticed with ProArteDanza during their 2015 season. She has been dancing with the company ever since she received her first apprentice contract. In 2016, she graduated from The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She was selected to be a part of the 2017/18 RBC Emerging Artists Project with Peggy Baker Dance Projects. Additionally, she is a freelance contemporary dance teacher, personal trainer as well as a certified yoga instructor in Toronto. For the past two years, she has been the Training Coordinator and the Rehearsal Director for ProArteDanza’s Summer Dance Intensive Program.

Johanna Bergfeldt

Contemporary Teacher

Johanna Bergfelt, a native of Sweden, graduated from The Royal Swedish Ballet School in 1989. She has an extensive performance background beginning with Östgötabaletten, where she worked for six years, and later joined Norrdans, and the Barents Dance Ensemble.  Since coming to Canada in 2000, Johanna has worked with The Chimera Project, Kaeja d’Dance, Kathleen Rea, Santee Smith, Darcey Callison, Louis Laberge-Côté, Kate Alton, Holly Small, William Yong, Pro Arte Danza, Mairéad Filgate, Yvonne Ng, and the Toronto Dance Theatre, where she was a company dancer for six years.  Johanna has been nominated four times for a Dora Mavor Moore Award. As a teacher Johanna teaches regularly at In Studio, GMD, online through Toronto Online Dance Collective, and the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, where she since 2019 is an Artistic Associate.

Ryan Lee

Contemporary Teacher

Independent Dance Artist Ryan Lee graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He has been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Emily Molnar, Guillaume Côté, Kevin O’Day, Stephen Pier, D.A. Hoskins, Darryl Tracy, Sharon B Moore, Julia Sasso and Menaka Thakkar.  Ryan has worked for such companies as Human Body Expression, ProArteDanza, Toronto Dance Theatre, Kaeja d’Dance, Anandam Dancetheatre, inDANCE, Larchaud Dance Project, Transcendance, The Chimera Project and TOES for Dance.  Ryan has toured internationally and has been nominated for Dora Mavor Moore awards for outstanding ensemble performance – 2011 In between by Roberto Campanella and Robert Glumbek and 2018 for Chasing the Path by Hanna Kiel. 

Ryan has been commissioned to make works by ProArteDanza, Anandam DanceTheatre, ACE DanceTheatre, The Emerging Artist Intensive, Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Ryerson University, George Brown College, Centennial College, Dance Ontario, Etobicoke School for the Arts and The School of Toronto Dance Theatre.  In 2019 Ryan co founded The Platform, a Toronto based collective focused on artistic creation and collaboration.  

Irina Lerman

Ballet Teacher

Irina Lerman originally from Russia. She graduated from Vaganova Ballet Academy in Saint-Petersburg in 2011 in a class of renowned ballet teacher Kovaleva Ludmila Valentinovna. After her graduation, she joined in the same year Mariinsky Ballet. She was fortunate enough to dance all classical and contemporary repertoire of Mariinsky Ballet went on tour in the USA, Germany, France, OAE, Japan, Chine.

In 2014 she made her choreographic debut at the stage of Mariinsky Theatre and got her Master’s Degree in Vaganova Ballet Academy in Choreography in 2016 alongside with Silver Medal at the International Ballet Competition in Riga, Latvia.

Robert Glumbek

Director

Upon graduation from Bytom State Ballet School in Poland, Robert Glumbek joined The Great Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Warsaw as a soloist where he worked with choreographers including John Neumeier, Maurice Bejart, Hans Van Manen, John Butler, and Constantine Siergiejew. In 1987, Glumbek came to Canada and worked for a variety of companies – including Theatre Ballet of Canada in Ottawa with Larry Gradus, the Judith Marcuse Company in Vancouver; and Myth Productions with Learie McNichols – before dancing with Desrosiers Dance Theatre from 1990 – 2000 where he was instrumental in the creation of many roles.

Aleksandar Antonijevic

Ballet

A native of Yugoslavia, Aleksandar Antonijevic studied at the National Ballet School in Novi Sad. He was a soloist with the Zurich Opera Ballet in Switzerland and Principal Dancer with The National Ballet of Canada for over 20 years.

Mr. Antonijevic has danced leading roles in most of the major works in the company’s repertoire including principal roles in Giselle, Onegin, Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, La Sylphide, Manon and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as well as numerous George Balanchine ballets, including Apollo, Diamonds and Rubies from Jewels, Theme and Variations and Stravinsky Violin Concerto. He has performed lead roles in Opus 19/The Dreamer, the second detail, Forgotten Land, Etudes, Song of a Wayfarer and Chroma.

He created several principal roles in works by James Kudelka, including Prince Ivan in The Firebird and Siegfried in Swan Lake. Mr. Antonijevic danced the role of Petruschka in the Canadian premiere of Nijinsky by John Neumeier as well as the role of Trigorin in Seagull.

An accomplished international guest artist, Mr. Antonijevic has performed with English National Ballet, Inoue Ballet Japan, Ballet Santiago of Chile and PACT Ballet South Africa and has partnered many of the world’s finest prima ballerinas, including Susan Jaffe, Viviana Durante, Lucia LaCarra, Evelyn Hart and Tamara Rojo.

Zachary Cardwell

Contemporary Teacher

Zachary Cardwell is a teacher, choreographer, and dancer interested in cultivating connections within ourselves and between one other.

A graduate of the Arts Umbrella Post-Secondary Dance Program, Vancouver, BC, under the direction of Artemis Gordon, Zachary has had the pleasure of performing works and excerpts by choreographers such as Crystal Pite, Marie Chouinard, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Sharon Eyal, James Kudelka, and Aszure Barton, among others. During his tenure with the Arts Umbrella Dance Company, Zachary toured Holland performing in the ITS Dance Festival and Netherlands Dans Theatre & Korzo’s Shortcuts XL.

Kelly Shaw

Contemporary Teacher

Kelly Shaw is a BFA honours graduate from Ryerson University’s Performance Dance program, and recipient of the 2018 Jack McAllister award. She is a Tkarón:to/Toronto-based free-lance dance artist collaborating and performing most recently with ProArte Danza, Human Body Expression, Citadel + Compagnie, Guillaume Cote, Alysa Pires Dance Projects, Echo Chamber Choir, Hit and Run Productions, Transcendance Project and was a 2010 and 2018 Dora Mavor Moore nominee. Kelly has trained and performed around the world in such places as Quebec, New York City, Spain and Korea. Additionally, she has been a part of several acclaimed festivals: Dance Ontario Weekend, Festival International de DansEncore, Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, New Dance Festival Korea, Toronto Fringe Festival, New York Capezio ACE awards, Dance Matters. Kelly is also an educator and choreographer across the country, as well as a certified Pilates and Barre fitness instructor.

Martha Hart

Contemporary Teacher

Martha Hart is a dance artist, choreographer and educator based in Toronto / Tkaronto. She is a graduate of  Canada’s National Ballet School, and also received training at the Palucca Schule Dresden, L’ecole Superieure du Ballet de Quebec, and Arts Umbrella Dance. After an engagement with the Dresden Semperoper Ballet, she returned to Canada and has since worked with Canadian companies such as Cote Danse (Guillaume Cote), Human Body Expression (Hanna Kiel), TranscenDance Project (Julia Cratchley), Ace Dance Theatre, The Garage, Hit & Run Dance Productions, Mascall Dance, and Project20 (Donald Sales). From 2015-2016 she was a member of the Metamorphosis Dance Collective directed by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich which toured to Mexico, Spain and Italy. In 2020, she founded hART dance as a collaborative umbrella for her choreographic endeavours. She continues to teach across the GTA and is passionate about sharing dance with people of all ages.

Valerie Calam

Improv Teacher

Valerie Calam is a Toronto-based dance artist interested in finding pathways to refresh and support herself. She works with fabric, patterns, sound, numbers, the nervous system, the body, and likes to edit/adapt/repurpose things. Most of all, Val enjoys working alongside dancers and artists. She umbrellas much of her work under the name Company Vice Versa  and works frequently with Fantastical Realms. She’s the Dance Ontario Regional Representative for her hometown of Sault Ste. Marie and recently became Membership Coordinator for CADA/East. She completed a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Choreography in 2014.

Danny McArthur

Partnering Teacher

Danny is a Toronto based DORA nominated dancing guy. He has performed in over 100 new works touring Canada, The USA, Europe and the Middle East. Danny often ruminates on the topic of how to acquire more frequent flyer miles. Yes, that’s right! Danny has been gifted to work with Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company II, Peggy Baker Dance Projects, ProArte Danza and James Kudelka and Citadel & Compagnie, along with other truly fabulous people.

In 2014 she made her choreographic debut at the stage of Mariinsky Theatre and got her Master’s Degree in Vaganova Ballet Academy in Choreography in 2016 alongside with Silver Medal at the International Ballet Competition in Riga, Latvia.

Chantelle Good

Choreographer

Chantelle Good, originally from Toronto, Canada, started dancing at the young age of two. Following her years of competitive dance training, Chantelle moved to New York to study dance at Marymount Manhattan College, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in choreography. She has performed in professional events including New York Fashion Week, BC Beat, DansEncore, DanceBreak, the Inside/Out Festival at Jacob’s Pillow, and the American Music Awards. In both 2016 and 2017, Chantelle attended Springboard Danse Montreal under the direction of Alexandra Wells, where she performed repertoire by Stijn Celis and Ohad Naharin. She has also performed works by Alexandra Damiani, Robert Battle, Jo Strømgren, Adam Barruch, Stacey Tookey, Kate Harpootlian, and Emma Portner.
